I just finished it with no casulties ^^ still i dont understand how it works but hey :P

Based on your upgrades and loyalties of your characters is what determines who survives.

I'm on my second run. I love this game but it's easy to see that it's only leading up to what will most likely be an awesome ending to this great trilogy.

Yeah. Once the "really bad thing" happens its on a timer. Also Mordin is apparently glitched so there's only two ways to have him survive the mission.

SPOILERS

Once the crew get captured you can do one more mission (assumed Legion's loyalty mission). Any more and you'll lose half the non-squad crew. Some amount more than that and you'll lose all of them. And from what people are saying Mordin will die if you don't either have him in your own squad or have him escort the survivors.

Spoilers:

Yeah that too, though it seems kinda obvious that, for example, you shouldn't send a non tech to do a tech's work. And you shouldn't send that bitch Miranda to do anything.

I saw a full-page review of ME2 in a Dutch newspaper today. It's too long to really translate ('cause I"m lazy) but the basic gist of it was something like this:

OMG WHAT AN AWESOME GAME WHEN DOES PART 3 COME OUT!?

Oh, and for those having trouble with the loading times and that have a dual core processor: the Unreal Engine 3 (on which the game is built) has a known issue with dual cores that causes needlessly long load times.

Solution: Next time you play the game, alt-tab out of the game, start task manager, and look for MassEffect2.exe under processes. Now right-click it, look for the "Set Affinity" option, and use it to turn off one of your cores, and click OK. Use the same option to turn it back on right afterwards, and alt-tab back to your game. Loading times are now about 1/4 or 1/5 of what they were.
