I made a topic like this once before in the previous Imoen Romance forums :D

Thought I'd make it again since I was digging through some old screenshots and made a video of my character's mod I was making (before it was partially lost). I love reminiscing~

Image

My primary Baldur's Gate character has always been Ghaleon the sorcerer based on the Lunar Silver Star Story videogames. Ghaleon was a elf-like magic-user who was known as one of the four heroes of the world.
They served their Goddess Althena, a deity who decided that humanity no longer needed a God to shelter them. Against Ghaleon's protests, the goddess gave up her immortalty to be reborn as a mortal girl.
Here's a clip of the scene :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtqZl0ITvXo
Needless to say, Ghaleon did not understand this reasoning, believing they needed a God to watch over them...

Many years pass, and the widely respected Hero Ghaleon eventually decides to take matters into his own hands... for the future of the world. In secret.

The former goddess, and children with the spirit of the four heroes are growing up. Around this time, Ghaleon reveals his plans, taking the former goddess in order to retrieve her lost powers before her demise.
Here's a clip of the fateful betrayal :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rcn6WP_9W-c

The story revolves around those children who become heroes by following the way of the dragonmaster and of the previous heroes. A race against time, Ghaleon passively confronts the children again and again. But, never killing them... (Was he just toying with them or was he decent at heart?)
Eventually Ghaleon's plans meet fruitation, returning the Goddess' powers to her once more.
Here's a long clip of Ghaleon's plan climax :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7jkZDvp-do

Finally, Ghaleon and the new heroes battle on the verge of Ghaleon's ascension. Just a few more minutes and he would have been a god!
The heroes slay Ghaleon in the nick of time and the former goddess is saved, to live out her life as a human~

1000 years later an evil god that once did battle with the Goddess returns to find Althena gone... He learns of Ghaleon's plans and ressurects him to be his servant.
Long story short, humanity does battle with the God... But, Ghaleon seeing how humanity has prospered; he betrays the evil god, and aids humanity... and with his betrayal discovered he fades away in peace.
Humanity defeats the evil god, and Ghaleon's story ends!

... at least until some ironic god has ghaleon reborn as a child of bhaal!

That about sums up the background on my character xD Not too original, but I truly enjoyed his character in the Lunar games; and so I based my character on him. Down to his strengths, weakness' and magic type.

After beating ToB, I eventually discovered mods and imported Ghaleon to begin anew... (His cursed fate! He would end the Bhaalspawn prophecy as a mortal in love with Aerie, only to awake to discover it never happened!)
So yeah... I replayed the game, using the import option... And each pass he became a little more powerful. He also grew distant, and his alignment ended up decreasing as well...)

xD Anyways during my repeat playthroughs I modded Ghaleon. The mod was partially lost years ago, but I found screenshots the other day~
The "mod" from back then was merely an epic sorcerer Ghaleon who found a way to draw upon his divine bhaalspawn soul to power his magic.
(basically I wanted to make him a better sorcerer than Irenicus was, with single key-presses for epic spells.)

...What I really *wanted* to do with the mod however, was to make Ghaleon into a joinable NPC that you meet in BG1... and depending on your friendship, could become another trusted ally in BG2 and ToB...
Or your worst nightmare (becoming the new final enemy).

Being a big fan of Imoen Romance, I wanted to intertwine this Ghaleon Bhaalspawn mod and the Imoen Romance.
There would be 4 major possibilities :
One, Ghaleon is an ally or dies before ToB. Melissan continues as usual.

Or Ghaleon becomes competition to charname, resulting in :
Two : A corrupt final battle Ghaleon, in which case his defeat results in him losing control of his essence becoming the most terrible Slayer you've seen!
Three : A Ghaleon who seeks ascension like Melissan. Final battle resulting in an epic level sorcerer.

Or if charname falls in love with Imoen... resulting in :
Ghaleon continuing what Irenicus started(?). Resulting in a Dark Goddess bhaalspawn final battle (against Imoen!?).

I had the stuff written in detail years ago, but I don't know if I've lost it along with most of the work I had...

In any case! If you're still with me :x
Here's a video I just put together showcasing some of the screenshots of the ghaleon mod that I found :
(AKA the reason I wrote all of this)
>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjySTVFD2HM <<<

They were taken at various stages of the mod, so they aren't the final product I once had...

Lastly, I started a Baldur's Gate walkthrough using Ghaleon (currently unvoiced) :
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... 8A92F21336

Unfortantely it's far from complete. The mods I used to make it more difficult... well.... I'm currently stuck in the mines lol. [after a terrible army of kobolds I got stuck and have yet to continue!]

Anyways...
Feel free to chatter about your own favorite charname~ :)

My favorite charname was actually my very first -- however, I can't remember her name! (I think it was Alissa or something similar). She was also, coincidentally, my first CRPG character ever, since BG1 was my first CRPG game.

Nothing special about her -- I got the game from my brother, started it up, and figured "Well, warrior are pretty simple to play, and pretty strong..." and rolled up a female human fighter. After many, MANY hours of frustration and struggle (damn those skeleton warriors to hell and back!), she bested Sarevok in Baldur's Gate and then got imported into BGII:SOA. Survived that, too! And TOB!

Later she ended up in my fanfiction, having retired to a happy life as the Lord of Eveningstar (a city), married to the city's Archdruid (Jaheira). That fanfiction starred my very first table-top RPG character, Timra (an exiled drow fighter-mage), who is now the main character in my first original fantasy novel!

However, Alissa actually didn't have that much of a background or personality beyond what was in the game -- she was strictly a CRPG character. The charname with the most thought and personality behind her would definitely be Cassandra from "Crumbling Down" [in order to write it, I made a character, gave her a personality, and played through the same on the assumption that it was "real" -- people who died stayed dead, getting to Imoen ASAP and skipping side quests, etc.].

And we all know her story, so...

Ugh. I suspected it was something like that. That lord of Eveningstar encounter was horribly Salvatoresque.

@TCDale
First CRPG was BG?? That was a good one to begin with~ :D
Although... I still haven't finished BG1... My first character Adol the paladin reached the Gates of Baldur's Gate :D And then it crashed... every time...

Ah also now that you mention it, I should read Crumbling Down sometime... *makes a note*

@Despair
I wish I had made a copy of the old Imoen Romance forums... I think you had written about your charname in detail; along with several others... interesting stuff.

Oh and some notes I forgot to add about Ghaleon :

The first playthrough, I was helplessly reliant on my party. Without their cooperation it is doubtful I could have survived *any* of the ToB battles... (probably ended close to lvl 30) Normal PC, Chaotic good. Minsc was my champion :D Without my friends and Ghaleon's ultimate power... Quick Save... he wouldn't have made it through!
I tried to be pretty realistic with what I did with my time. I never could understand how one could sleep in dungeons, and all manner of dangerous situations to restore your magic and health. And of course Imoen is in the clutches of Irenicus... I surely thought something bad would happen if I waited too long. Too often during this first playthrough my party accused me of being a taskmaster (always tired...)
PS. <3 Aerie, stayed a mortal and got married!

The second playthrough I imported my character and gave him the ability to use any item... So he could learn to fight with swords~ By ToB he wore darker robes; and thanks to use any item and his magic, I put him on the frontlines in some battles. Probably got close to lvl 50 by the end? Less reliant and not a normal PC, Neutral Evil.
PS. </3 Aerie, ascended and stuff...

The third playthrough I imported him again... and began slight modding. Giving him "uber" spells that mirrored Irenicus' cutscene flair. At this point I may have found the costume you see in the video (red lining though). This playthrough (might be the Imoen Romance one). <3 Imoen

Upon fourth or fifth playthrough I broke out all the tricks I knew with modding and reached about what you see in the video... Something like soloing armies with the convience of a single button :) [selectable soul magic power levels] At this point I soloed most of the game. He could also summon his own troops or monsters as the video showed.
PS. <3 Aerie, Imoen, Jaheria, Viconia, and had all the strongholds lol

(My favorite thing to do after that was load up ToB and fight the "immortal" firegiant and his army. Because, it is quite possible to kill him before doing the heart quest... it just takes incredible luck and damage. (Or the use of level downs and much cutscene magic) It even keeps Ghaleon on his toes :)

...Ghaleon will only be free of this Groundhog life after he plays Imoen ToB :X
Okay, now that's out of my system xD

I still have a 800KB text file with my posts in progress. It has many quoted replies to ancient users like Delirium, Katryna, Sir Kalthorine and others...

Here's some description of my old character:

So, yeah... I've been overthinking your drawings. How many of those questions are you willing to answer?

Heh, all of them :D .

ZoharContact wrote:
I must admit that I'm interested in how you'll go about this. I've brainstormed a lot about how an evil main character might interact with Imoen... *ahem* ...but while many Imoen fans view her as a vessel of goodness and light, she was still originally slated to flip out and "Ravage" everything. o_O

Heh...
So much for artistic integrity of Bioware ;) .

My conception of Dark Imoen dates back to discussion about corrupting Imoen like Observations of a Free Mind and Plausible Imoen Corruption Idea.
The basics of Dark Imoeness are deWinthropisation, deLittlesisterisation and militarisation of Imoen.

ZoharContact wrote:
Imoen's profession?

Imoen is a dualclassed fighter/thief - something like an agent - she was trained in Candlekeep she has to provide some services to Candlekeep in return (These services usually involve finding books and disposing of their owners.). Theorethicaly she was taught how to protect Amawyn, but in practice she is a recovery specialist - she uses both her fighter and thief skills for that purpose.

ZoharContact wrote:
So, naturally I'm interested in the how and why of Imoen being or becoming "dark," and exactly what manner of cruelty she's capable of.

Her childhood without Winthrop was a lot less careless - mostly she was training or learning - or playing rather cruel pranks on defenceless monks (and Amawyn). She is more disciplined but on the other hand more ruthless and vicious.

ZoharContact wrote:
You said "musician," not "Bard." Is Amawyn a civilian?

Yes, she's learning to play music and sing, but doesn't have combat or magical skills.

ZoharContact wrote:
I also have lots of other questions, such as: How dynamic are you planning for Amawyn to be?

She's very submissive, dependant and uninterested in fighting - her mother didn't want her to cause any trouble, so she traine... err... brought her up propertly.

ZoharContact wrote:
Will she convince Imoen to renounce her "dark Imoen"-ly ways?

I don't know yet, but I doubt it.

ZoharContact wrote:
Where do you plan to start and what time period do you intend to cover?

I want to start with Imoen arriving to Candlekeep,

ZoharContact wrote:
How does Amawyn deal with her essence?

I don't know yet - she's an antithesis of a hero. I think that she'll become a healer or something like that... She's pretty good at supressing her anger... but... maybe some day she'll explode... who knows...

ZoharContact wrote:
The list goes on... Judging from Amawyn's dress and decided lack of battle accoutrements, I would guess the setting is during the Candlekeep childhood days... but she looks rather old

It's when she is about 20 years old - some time before leaving

Damn, it reminds me of something...
I was doing a room cleaning some time ago and I have found some drawings from that period, including drawings of Amawyn. Damn, they were horrible with really bad face proportions with grotesquely big mouths. I was shocked that I haven't seen how bad they are when I was drawing them...
Anyway, it seems that one year of drawing from life every 1-2 weeks in advertisement school has helped a lot.

Anyway, I wonder what Deskath and ZoharContact are doing nowadays...
So many people have disappeared...

My most recent charname is Kitiara from the Dragonlance novels... always had a bit of a thing for her, I like her personality, she is an evil swashbuckler/ fighter dual class, and I'm considering making her into my first NPC mod. I made her her own set of blue dragonscale armour gifted to her from Skie (if anyone knows the story!)

I guess I have two main CHARNAME's

Both which solidified after BG II came out with the kits and such

The first was my elf mage (then wildmage because wildmages are awesome)

The second was my human Fighter (became a fighter berserker/cleric)

My very first character ever though was a ranger just because at the time they sounded cool and I like animals. Then I realized that mages were even cooler, cus you know, fireballs and shnizzle

I guess my favourite charname has got to be one of my latest, a laid back and snarky paladin called Rafen. (I view being laid back and having a sense of humour an inevitable result of having grown up around Imoen). However he lately has being using said snark to cover up the fact that ever since his discovery of his heritage he has being undergoing a crisis of faith. (This is probably horribly cliched I know but I'm still proud of it OK?)
